Ladybirds and Butterfly's share a large space with different areas, such as, a large sandpit, a role play area, a reading garden, and a maths area. Each age group has their own Team Leader and key group families.
Ladybirds is for children ages 2-3 years. We have a door leading straight onto our garden, we aim to have the door open throughout the day, to allow a for free flow environment where the children can decide if they would like to play inside or out. Ladybirds children are at an age where they are becoming more independent, we offer an environment which encourages this, such as washing our own hands at meal times and when toileting, and being taught the 'coat trick' to put our own coats on! We also encourage independence at snack times by allowing the children to spread their own butter and pour their own drinks.
This age group is the age most children start potty training, we are aware this can be a difficult transition for both parents and children, we aim to make this transition as smooth as possible by following your routines at home and being there for advise when you need it, we have a large bathroom to cater for toileting needs, including potties, small toilets, sinks and a changing station.
Butterfly's is for our pre-school children. The Butterfly team work with the children and Parents to make learning fun & rewarding, we follow the children's interests as we feel children learn best when they are engaged. Butterfly's also love spending time creating shops, digging for mini beasts & visiting the babies. The aim of the Butterfly group is to provide a bridging year between nursery and the school reception year, easing the transition between the two environments. This is achieved through activities like the "letter of the week" and learning how dress our selves independently.
When children transition to a different setting or move on to infant school we welcome new key Carers and teachers into our setting to meet with the children in an environment familiar to them. We fully engage in moving on reports and transition reports. When the Butterfly's are getting ready to transition to school we ensure we focus on this by looking at their new schools, through photos and their websites, we also have special visits from their new teachers! We prepare the children for different tasks they will face at school such as; collecting their plate from the dinner lady, and keeping concentration during circle time, we also have school uniforms in the room which are available for the children to try on.
