Caterpillars (12 weeks - 24 months)

Caterpillars is the area for under 2’s (24 months). We aim to create a home from home environment to deliver the best possible care for the youngest of our children. We follow home routines so that the transition between home and nursery goes as smoothly as possible. Also, we work closely with parents and welcome parents in to breastfeed at all times, or just to pop in to have a hug and kiss with their little one.

During the day there are a lot of activities on offer to keep all the children entertained such as messy/sensory play, ranging from painting to flour play, mirrors and discovery baskets full of wonderful objects to investigate such as wooden blocks and shiny metal objects. Additionally, we have a sensory room, to give the children a quiet space to go. Our Sensory Snug has a variety of lights and textured materials, including a light up ceiling, for hours of fun!

Ladybirds (2 -3 years)

Ladybirds is for children aged 2-3 years. We have a door leading straight onto our garden and we aim to have the door open throughout the day, to allow a for free flow environment where the children can decide if they would like to play inside or out. Ladybirds children are at an age where they are becoming more independent, which is why we offer an environment which encourages this. This includes washing our own hands at meal times and when toileting and being taught the ‘coat trick’ to put our own coats on! We also encourage independence at snack times by allowing the children to spread their own butter and pour their own drinks.

This age group is the age most children start potty training and we are aware this can be a difficult transition for both parents and children. Our staff aim to make this transition as smooth as possible by following your routines at home and being there for advice when you need it. There is a large bathroom to cater for toileting needs, including potties, small toilets, sinks and a changing station.

Butterflies (3 years to 5 years)

Butterflies is for our pre-school children. The Butterfly team work with the children and parents to make learning fun & rewarding. We follow the children’s interests as we feel children learn best when they are engaged. They also love spending time creating shops, digging for mini beasts & visiting the babies. The aim of the Butterfly group is to provide a bridging year between nursery and the school reception year, easing the transition between the two environments. This is achieved through activities like the “letter of the week” and learning how dress ourselves independently.

When children transition to a different setting or move on to infant school, we welcome new key Carers and teachers into our setting to meet with the children in an environment familiar to them. We fully engage in moving on reports and transition reports. When the Butterflies are getting ready to transition to school we ensure we focus on this by looking at their new schools, through photos and their websites. We also have special visits from their new teachers! We prepare the children for different tasks they will face at school such as; collecting their plate from the dinner lady, and keeping concentration during circle time, we also have school uniforms in the room which are available for the children to try on.
