Owls is for our older Pre-school children who are due to start school at the beginning of the next academic year. Owls have their own separate & purpose-built building for the pre-school year grouping. With room for a class of up to 18 full-time children, this modular building is slightly separate from the main building. It is set in leafy surroundings with its own mini playground & a ramp leading up, through outside decking, to the room which is designed to be well-lit with large windows.
The Owls team work with the children and Parents to make learning fun & rewarding, we follow the children's interests as we feel children learn best when they are engaged. Owls also love spending time creating shops, digging for mini beasts & visiting the babies. The aim of the Owls group is to provide a bridging year between nursery and the school reception year, easing the transition between the two environments. This is achieved through activities like the "letter of the week" and learning how to sing their daily welcome song in different languages.
When children transition to a different setting or move on to infant school we welcome new key Carers and teachers into our setting to meet with the children in an environment familiar to them. We fully engage in moving on reports and transition reports. When the Owls are getting ready to transition to school we always ensure we focus on this by looking at their new schools, through photos and their websites, we also have special visits from their new teachers! We prepare the children for different tasks they will face at school such as; collecting their plate from the dinner lady, and keeping concentration during circle time, we also have school uniforms in the room which is available for the children to try on. We have good relationships with all the local schools as we provide a breakfast club, after-school club and morning drop-off/ collection service to local schools.
